Pocket Sprung Vs Bonnell Spring.
At the Sleep Shop we believe the foundation to a great night’s sleep is the correct mattress and pillow. Shopping for a new mattress has become more complicated, with more and more brands offering gimmicks and higher spring counts to entice people to purchase. More springs does not necessarily mean better value or support?
In today’s Sleep blog we will explain the difference between pocket springs and bonnel springs and which is better and why.
Pocket Sprung:
Pocket springs are springs wrapped in individual pockets of cotton, or other materials. The biggest advantage is each spring works independently to reduce movement across the mattress. When your partner moves or turns while sleeping or even getting in or out of the bed it does not cause any motion disturbance, upsetting you while you sleep. This factor is particularly relevant and of great importance for those consumers who are looking for a main bedroom mattress.
The Pocket spring system also provides better support throughout the whole body with each pocketed coil responding individually to the different parts of your body weight. As the springs move independently they offer more support for your body and are ideal for people of two different weights as it reduce the roll-together feeling. For a main bedroom we would look no further than a pocket sprung mattress.
Bonnell Spring.
The Bonnell or open coil spring unit is one of the cheapest and most ineffective support units you can buy in a mattress. It is a continuous piece of wire that is twisted and coiled to create a massive set of joined crude springs. This results in a ‘one size spring’ of sorts, which moves as one piece. This is not ideal for a couple, more suitable for a guest room and occasional use.
